Nepal -Poland Relations
Political Relations
Diplomatic relations between Nepal and the Republic of Poland were established on 25 November 1959. Relations between Nepal and Poland are based on friendship, cordiality and mutual respect.
The Office of the Polish Trade Representative was opened in Kathmandu in 1966, which was closed after the establishment of the residential Polish Embassy in Kathmandu in 1974. Later, Poland closed its embassy in Kathmandu. At present, the Embassy of Poland in New Delhi is concurrently accredited to Nepal, while Embassy of Nepal in Berlin is concurrently accredited to Poland.
Exchange of Visits
A number of high-level visits have taken place between Nepal and Poland, demonstrating the cordial relations between the two countries.
High-level visits from the Nepali side include visits by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Defense Mr. Ishwar Pokharel (2018), Defense Minister Mr. Bhimsen Das Pradhan (2017), and Minister for Foreign Affairs late Chakra Prasad Bastola (1999). An earlier visit includes that of Foreign Minister G.B. Rajbhandari in 1969.
From the Polish side, Deputy Minister of Economy of Poland, Wojciech Jan Katner, visited Nepal in 1999.
Economic and Humanitarian Cooperation
In 1966, a Trade and Payments Agreement was signed between Nepal and Poland.
Poland supported with immediate search and rescue operation team of USAR-81 fire-fighters, 12 search and rescue dogs and 12 doctors in the aftermath of the earthquakes in 2015.
Trade and Investment
The balance of trade remains in favour of Poland. The following trade figures for the last few years reflect Nepal’s exports to and imports from Poland:

The major export goods to Poland from Nepal are apparels, clothing accessories, handicrafts and works of art. Likewise, import goods from Poland to Nepal include machinery, dairy products and beverages.
As of FY 2023/24, Poland’s total capital FDI stock in Nepal stood at Rs. 28.6 million.
Tourism and People-to-People Relations
Nepal welcomed 9,295 Polish tourists in 2025. Various Polish mountaineering teams have traveled to Nepal to summit Himalayan Peaks.
It is estimated that around 13,000 Nepalis currently reside in Poland.
